Aerospace Medicine

NATCA represents 30 employees at regional FAA offices, en route centers and the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Okalahoma City, Okla., in the Occupational Health Nurses, Occupation Health Specialists, and Medical Program Assistants Division. The members in this bargaining report indirectly to the Office of Aerospace Medicine.

NATCA won the election with 90 percent of the vote. Federal Labor Relations Authority issued certification on Aug. 23, 2000.

Patrick Corcoran serves as this group's national representative. Within NATCA, these divisions are further combined with the engineers and architects and create essentially one "region" of about 2,508 total bargaining unit members represented by Engineers and Architects Vice President Mike MacDonald on the National Executive Board.

What Do These Members Do?

This division has first-hand knowledge of the procedures related to FAA mandated physicals and assist physicians.

The occupational health nurses and specialists' duties include 'but are not limited to air traffic controller medical certification, working problem cases, pilot certification, aircraft accident investigation, Occupational Hearing Conservation, Aviation Medical Examiner Program and Health Awareness Program. These members help physicians and their staff by answering questions dealing with problem cases with various pilot needs and medical conditions.

The medical program assistants provide administrative support at the medical field offices and the regional office. They review physical examinations, provide clinic annual, quarter and monthly reports, maintain medical records, maintain bills and manage the office. They are knowledgeable in all areas of the aerospace medical programs.
