Media Coverage: Contracting Out

The battle against air traffic control privatization is coming to a head, and NATCA has stepped up to the plate with an all-out media blitz to draw attention to the union's most crucial issue.  Over the past month, more than 75 televised news broadcasts featured a story on the issue, and over 100 media outlets have published print stories.  Newspapers that have featured the legislative battle include The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, as well as countless smaller newspapers whose stories focused on area control towers that may be privatized if proposed legislation passes.  Press conferences in which NATCA members expressed the union's stance on privatization were held in 25 cities where airports have been placed on the FAA's list of potential privatization candidates.  These cities include Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Orlando and Pittsburgh.
