NATCA HONORS EXCEPTIONAL CONTROLLERS WITH ARCHIE LEAGUE MEDAL OF SAFETY AWARDS FOR EXEMPLARY FLIGHT ASSISTS

CHICAGO – NATCA is honoring some of its finest members today for their exceptional contributions to air safety – demonstrating extraordinary capability in critical flight assists in 2007.

The Archie League Medal of Safety, named for the first air traffic controller, will be awarded to the following 12 controllers for their involvement in 10 flight assists.  They are:

Alaskan Region – John Brown, Fairbanks Air Traffic Control Tower

Central Region – Jack Bowers and David Brown, St. Louis TRACON

Eastern Region – Christopher Foust, Baltimore Washington International Tower

Great Lakes Region – James Kmetz, Terre Haute Tower and Patrick Eberhart, Detroit Metro TRACON

New England Region – Steve Walsh, Burlington Tower

Northwest Mountain Region – Lee Wheeler, Salt Lake City Air Route Traffic Control Center

Southern Region – Dave Rivero, Miami Center

Southwest Region – Paul Hiel, Oklahoma City Tower

Western Pacific Region – Bill Jacobs and Bruce Snoddy, Southern California TRACON

“These controllers stand for everything that is right in our profession,” NATCA President Patrick Forrey said.  “While they may say that they were just doing their job – I can tell you that their actions demonstrated much more.  Their skill and determination, as well as their dedication, embody the true spirit of the profession and NATCA.”
