John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

JFK

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

Facility Representative Barrett Byrnes

1.  Fly early in the day.  Afternoon thunderstorms are the main reason behind many of JFK’s summer delays.  Also, volume increases exponentially in the late afternoon hours, beginning at 3:00 p.m., which doesn’t subside until midnight or even later.

2.  Avoid making connections.  If at all possible, fly directly to JFK from your original departure city or, if leaving JFK, fly direct to your destination.  By doing this you can avoid delays associated with making connections.

3.  Guiding you home safely.  With fewer controllers guiding more aircraft into and out of JFK than ever before, and the situation worsening due to retirements, it’s going to be a long summer.  But controllers at JFK are committed to your safety and will do everything in their power to keep the system moving safely and efficiently.
