Tampa International Airport (TPA)

TPA

Tampa International Airport (TPA)

Facility Representative Pat McCormick

1.  Avoid busy travel times.  The heaviest air traffic times for Tampa are 7:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 8:00 p.m.  Scheduling flights to avoid these times will reduce delays.

2.  Avoid afternoon thunderstorms.  Thunderstorms are a major reason for delays at Tampa International Airport.  Due to the heating of the atmosphere in Florida, thunderstorms normally develop in the afternoons between 3:00 p.m. and usually last until 8:00 p.m.  Avoiding travel through Tampa International during these times during the summer months will reduce your flight delays.

3.  Tips for Thanksgiving and Christmas travel.  TPA is very busy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Season.  Try to arrive and depart the Tampa area as many days ahead of and after the actual holiday as possible to reduce your delays.
