Workforce Engagement Survey: Feb. 27 - March 18
Thursday, February 16, 2012

As recently announced, the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) has partnered with Gallup to administer a short survey as part of the Workforce Engagement effort. The survey will be conducted Feb. 27 through March 18.

NATCA strongly supports the WE program and encourages participation in this important survey.

You can participate in the survey using ONE of three options.

DIRECT TO WEB SITE OPTION
You can complete the survey by going to the Gallup website link here from Feb. 27 to March 18. Once you are at the survey site, you can obtain an Access Code and complete the survey.

EMAIL INVITATION OPTION
On Feb. 27, NATCA will send an invitation from Gallup to you by email to participate in the survey. Just click the link to the survey and enter the Access Code given in the invitation.

TELEPHONE OPTION
You can complete the survey via Gallup’s Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone system. Please follow the instructions below on how to use the Interactive Voice Response system.

•    Call 1-800-308-7357 to access the survey.

•    Call toll-free, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from work or home, between February 27 and March 18, 2012. The line will close March 18, 2012, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. You must call from a touch-tone phone to complete the survey.

Again, this is a short survey and we encourage your participation. Under no circumstances will your personal responses be revealed to anyone within FAA or NATCA.

The NATCA Workforce Engagement team has outlined many benefits of Workforce Engagement:

1.   It’s time to change the culture – old ways of doing business are no longer acceptable.
2.   It’s not just about improving the working environment; you are impacting people’s lives.
3.   Engaged employees are less toxic.
4.   Engaged employees add to the working environment – they don’t subtract from it.
5.   Engaged employees take less time, effort, and energy to manage.
6.   Engaged facilities are more collaborative.
7.   Engaged facilities use fewer sick leaves.
a.   A recent study showed that engaged employees are also healthier and specifically have less heart disease
b.   Another connection Gallup has been able to make is that general well being is higher in engaged employees
8.   Engaged facilities file fewer grievances
9.   People working in engaged environments have more discretionary time
10.  Engagement does not take extra work – it should just be the way you operate by  using dialogue, listening, and implementing. It actually will free up more time for managers.
11.  It’s about treating everyone with respect
12.  Everyone has something to offer
13.  It can help break the chain of negativity – folks talking about how “it’s always been,” “nothing ever changes,” “we don’t follow through” and “can’t seem to get it right.” People need to break away from these old mindsets – engagement can help. After a while those negative thoughts become self-fulfilling prophecies.
