(Third in a series)

This year's Communicating for Safety conference included an interesting and insightful panel dealing with pilot-controller communications that was moderated by NATCA’s Dawn Johnson and Jennifer VanRooy, and Alaska bush pilots Luke Hickerson and John Ponts. The panel of experts included NATCA’s Micah Maziar and Kevin McLaughlin, Bob Hildebidle of the Air Traffic Organization, Bob Lamond of the National Business Aviation Association, Mike Harris of the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association and Greg Downs from the Air Line Pilots Association.

The interactive session included video throughout depicting the daily work life of both a controller and a pilot. Many topics were highlighted throughout the panel discussion, but weather challenges, training differences and call signs were the hot topics.
