THIS WEEK’S NOTEBOOK: Finance Committee Says Goodbye to Veteran Members, Welcomes New Additions
Friday, June 14, 2013

National Finance Committee (NFC) Chairman Brian Dowd (BUF) joined the committee in the summer of 2004 along with Denver Center Member Rick Scott. Dowd said Scott’s trademark was a large, unique calculator that he brought to meetings and other functions.

“Rick is a real numbers guy. That calculator is just a simple one with 10 numbers and function keys,” said Dowd, who pointed out that what stands out about the device is its unusual size. “It’s bigger than an iPad. He took that with him everywhere.”

Says Dowd: “The only thing bigger than Rick’s calculator was his heart.”

It’s one of many things Dowd said he will miss about Scott, who stepped down from the committee effective June 1 and is planning to retire late next year. “Now is the best time for somebody else to take over as the Northwest’s representative to the NFC,” Scott said.

Replacing Scott on the NFC is Denver TRACON Member Dave Riley. In addition to Scott, other veteran NFC members to leave the committee recently are Rick Schmidt (Chicago TRACON) and former chairman Andy Heifner (St. Louis TRACON).
