Testimony in front of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation

WHO: National Air Traffic Controllers Association President Michael P. McNally.

WHAT: A discussion of essential modernization programs and funding for the air traffic control system, as presented in his testimony before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.

WHEN: Testimony begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. McNally’s portion is scheduled to begin around 1:30.

WHY: NATCA supports the administration’s FY2001 budget request for the Federal Aviation Administration. Congress must commit to stable, guaranteed funding in order to ensure the nation’s air traffic control system continues to remain the safest and most efficient in the world.

Major issues include:

1. Modernization of equipment, procedures and the national air system
2. Dangers of privatizing air traffic control, the contract tower program, oceanic operations
3. NATCA contract
4. Improved labor/management relations
