NATCA Applauds Passage of Senate FAA Reauthorization Bill - (2/18/2011)

WASHINGTON – National Air Traffic Controllers Association Executive Vice President Trish Gilbert issued the following statement following Thursday evening’s Senate passage of the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill:

“We are deeply appreciative of the Senate’s actions in passing this long-awaited FAA reauthorization bill, and thank Majority Leader Reid, Chairman Rockefeller and Ranking Member Hutchison for their leadership. As the safety professionals who make up our nation’s air traffic control system, we believe this bill supports the public’s interest in a safe and efficient air transportation system.

“Air traffic controllers and other safety-related front-line workers provide essential input into the research, development, testing, and implementation stages of NextGen modernization projects. This legislation not only paves the way for the safe implementation of the these projects, but also addresses key issues regarding the stability of the air traffic controller workforce.

“We look forward to working with House leaders as this bill moves toward final passage and the President’s signature.”
