NATCA, FAA Reach Tentative Agreement for Staff Specialists - (4/8/2010)

WASHINGTON – The National Air Traffic Controllers Association and the Federal Aviation Administration have tentatively agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement that covers FAA employees who work as Staff Support Specialists.

These employees join a list of NATCA bargaining units with new contracts that includes air traffic controllers, traffic management coordinators (TMC) and Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) specialists and Air Traffic Organization (ATO) Service Centers. The tentative agreement is subject to membership ratification and, if ratified, would be effective through Sept. 30, 2012, the same expiration date as it is for the Air Traffic/TMC/NOTAM bargaining units’ contracts.

FAA Staff Support Specialists work in a number of offices providing staff support to the operation. These offices include Quality Assurance, providing staff support in operational error investigation and mitigation, Plans and Programs, responsible for the coordination of physical changes within the facility, and Airspace and Procedures, which provides support on airspace changes and mapping as well as amendments to standard operating procedures.

Said NATCA President Paul Rinaldi:  "This agreement is a positive step towards further collaboration with the Agency and we welcome and look forward to a more inclusive relationship between all of NATCA's bargaining units and the FAA."

“Both sides worked hard to achieve this agreement and I applaud everyone for a terrific effort,” said FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt.  “This agreement reflects our progress in not only working together towards common goals but also building a relationship based on mutual respect.”
