NATCA SUPPORTS NOMINATION OF PETE BUTTIGIEG AS TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY

WASHINGTON – The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) today issued this statement in support of Mayor Pete Buttigieg, President-Elect Joe Biden’s choice to be nominated as the next secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT):

“We congratulate Mayor Buttigieg and we support his nomination. We urge the U.S. Senate to begin its confirmation process in earnest. The 20,000 aviation safety professionals NATCA represents are committed to keeping the National Airspace System (NAS) moving safely and efficiently and we are looking forward to Secretary Buttigieg’s leadership. We greatly value our successful collaborative relationship with the DOT and the Federal Aviation Administration. That collaboration has been critical as our members have continued to work during the COVID-19 pandemic and will be tested as the aviation industry assists in the unprecedented  vaccine transport and distribution process. Ending the pandemic is necessary for the recovery of our aviation industry.

“Our aviation system is the engine that drives our nation’s economy, and this is a critical time. The nomination of Mayor Buttigieg is a positive step as we move forward.”
