Region X Monthly Update | November 2021
A Message from Our Region X RVP, Brothers and Sisters – Welcome November – we face continued challenges as well as new opportunities. Throughout the last month there have been several evolving, changing, and newly created updates sent out by the Department of Transportation and subsequent clarifications or repeats by the Federal Aviation Administration related to the federal employee vaccination mandate. Although the mandate is a condition of employment which requires the federal workforce to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and is non-negotiable, some of the implementation processes are. Where there is ability for NATCA to negotiate these implementation items, we have, and will continue to do so and consistent with each change we will share any updates with your representatives who will communicate with each of you. Please be aware of the deadlines associated with the vaccination requirements set forth by the FAA, at the direction of the Department of Transportation, following the requirements of the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force. Today – Monday November 8th is the date the FAA has set to complete attestation for your vaccination status. Back to the offices –Contrary to any local manager indicating otherwise there has been no actual dates set for the return to the offices and the ending of our maximum telework posture. We are in routine discussions with the agency on this topic and as we know more with definitive time frames, we will share with all of you. Post COVID-19 telework agreements – As the federal workforce becomes fully vaccinated, a return to the office space will become a new reality. When the pandemic began it was NATCA’s expectation that a return to the offices would occur either when COVID-19 naturally went away OR post vaccine. We are near the point of post vaccine with the mandatory vaccination and we will be occupying the offices in many of our LOBs at different rates depending on jobs, duties, teamwork needs, public interaction, etc. We continue to work with the agency to identify appropriate future telework options for the workforce. While this is ongoing you should expect your managers to reach out to you directly to complete post-COVID-19 telework agreements. Work, work, work – With the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act we have a lot of work to do to meet the expectations of congress to improve the NAS. This work will be felt across all of our LOBs and we will meet the challenge. I look forward to the transformational efforts and what may be a once in a career opportunity to truly make a positive, forward leaning difference to the NAS. NATCA Convention – We will be having a business only convention in Houston December 9-10. Starting on the 9th after lunch with a planned stop at 10pm and then reconvening the morning of the 10th at 8am with a planned end at lunch. We are really trying to limit interactions to the extent practicable. Food will be served at the convention and there are no group or regional dinner or other planned events. The entire focus of the convention will be to go over the proposed amendments to the constitution that have been submitted from our membership. Vacations and Leave – Take time to enjoy friends and family during the holiday season. Be safe and I look forward to seeing you in 2022.
