National Legislative Committee (NLC) Chair for the Great Lakes Region Mike Hanlon and NLC Chair for the Northwest Mountain Region Richard Kennington led the first timers' session on day two of NATCA in Washington, May 23.
During the class, they gave attendees tips on how to use their experience as aviation safety professionals to convey the importance of stable federal funding in keeping the National Airspace System (NAS) as safe and efficient as possible. In addition, they described the structure of Congressional Offices so activists would understand the role of everyone they spoke to on Capitol Hill.
Both first-time attendees and veteran NATCAvists had something to glean from the class, whether it was learning new techniques or maintaining their skillset. Hanlon and Kennington helped attendees incorporate their unique knowledge as federal employees in the aviation field and hone that message into a concise “ask” that attendees then brought to Capitol Hill later in the week.
