Vectors for Hope Hosts First Annual Charity Fly-In

HOUSTON – On Saturday, Sept. 28 Vectors for Hope will hold its first-ever charity fly-in at David Wayne Hooks Airport to benefit organizations that provide free transportation to treatment facilities for patients with life threatening illnesses.

Vectors for Hope was founded by a group of Houston area air traffic controllers to raise awareness for aviation charitable organizations, raise young people’s interest in aviation, and also get their Union, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), more involved with their community.

At the fly-in, attendees can plan to see vintage aircraft, including the A-26, B-17, B-25, C-60, P-51, Corsair, Steerman, PT19, and more. There will be helicopter, war bird, and seaplane rides, as well as food, drinks, a large children’s activity area featuring a carnival, and live presentations by air traffic control. In addition, Vectors for Hope will feature a raffle and a silent auction for items including a ride in a P-51 Mustang with a hotel stay and dinner for two in Galveston, two round trip tickets on Southwest Airlines, ‘Wings Over Houston’ air show tickets, and many other prizes.

“We’ve received support from so many organizations,” said Vectors for Hope Event Coordinator and Houston Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) controller Adam Rhodes. “It’s really neat to see everything we’ve accomplished in the spirit of charity.”

All proceeds from this year’s fly-in will benefit Angel Flight South Central, The House Ground Angels, and Around the World for Life. Vectors for Hope partnered with the NATCA Charitable Foundation to provide a means of raising money for these non-profit organizations.

“We’re excited to be hosting this event for the first time ever,” said Vectors for Hope Event Coordinator and Houston TRACON controller Delfina Jensen. “We really just want the community to have a good time while learning about aviation and helping us raise awareness for these honorable charities.”

The fly-in will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST at Hooks Airport in Spring, Texas, 20803 Stuebner Airline Road. The event is open to the public; admission and parking are free.
