May 12, 2017 // This Week’s Notebook: Support Cleveland Center controller Derek Zensen’s son, Peyton
Cleveland Center (ZOB) controller Derek Zensen’s son, Peyton, was born with Dravet syndrome. Dravet syndrome is a rare genetic brain dysfunction affecting children within their first year and continuing throughout their lives. Like other children with Dravet syndrome, Peyton experiences random seizures, chronic infection, growth issues, and delayed development of language and motor skills.
One in 20,000 children will be diagnosed with Dravet syndrome. Diagnosed children often have trouble sleeping, periods of hyperactivity, and difficulty interacting with others. Service animals are proven to provide comfort for children with Dravet syndrome, distracting from unpleasant medical procedures and encouraging independence.
You can show your support by ordering one of the shirts below. Contact ZOB FacRep Russ Hannu at firstname.lastname@example.org. All funds from shirt sales will go towards helping Peyton get a service animal. You can also support Peyton at youcaring.com/teampeyton.
