June 19, 2017 // NATCA Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

WASHINGTON – The National Air Traffic Controllers Association today proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary. On June 19, 1987, the Federal Labor Relations Authority certified NATCA as the exclusive bargaining representative of Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers. NATCA’s first collective bargaining agreement came less than two years after this certification. Agreement on a deal came in 1989. NATCA President Paul Rinaldi and Executive Vice President Trish Gilbert issued this statement:

“On June 19, 1987, NATCA members joined together, so their collective voices could create a better present and future. We’ve come a long way together. There have been so many victories since.

“NATCA has grown into a 17-bargaining unit-union. We are the primary advocate for aviation safety professionals. In addition to our incredibly dedicated member activists and member leaders, the strength of our Union lies in each individual member at every local facility. Every day, NATCA members advance our professions and work to make our National Airspace System the world’s safest and most efficient. We are positioned to continue fighting for the interests of our members today and going forward.”
