NATCA Executive Vice President Trish Gilbert attended an “Incredible Southern Region class of activists learning about legislative activism,” in Florida this week. She said it is consistently amazing watching the next generation of activists engage with each other, the union, and the country.
There was a great turnout this week at the NATCA Meet & Greet events in Oklahoma City, with new air traffic control students and RTF! NATCA President Paul Rinaldi spoke with the groups, and was joined by Eastern Regional Vice President Dean Iacopelli; LAS FacRep Jamaal Haltom; FSM FacRep, Benefits Committee Chairman and Organizing Committee Chairman John Bratcher; and National Office Manager of Outreach and Special Events Kelly Richardson.
NATCA Executive Vice President Trish Gilbert met with Melissa Sabatine this week. Sabatine has led the Regulatory Affairs team at the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) since November 2007 and is a self-described aviation exec, fashionista, and barre belle. Sabatine singled out Gilbert as this week’s Woman in Aviation who Rocks Wednesday.
“This week’s Woman in Aviation who Rocks Wednesday is Patricia Gilbert, @natcanational EVP. Trish is an accomplished leader and valued industry expert who always has a smile no matter how crazy busy her day is. I am honored to serve with her on the Aero Club’s Board of Governors and call her my colleague.”
A Secretary/Treasure training class was held in Las Vegas, April 11-12. Instructors Ed Szczuka, Central Service Region Engineer, and Jennifer VanRooy, Denver Center, taught the class. Dina Earl, SkyOne Credit Union, briefed the attendees on how SkyOne can help them with their facility finances.
Basic Rep Training (BRT) was also held in Las Vegas this week. Attendees of both the BRT and Secretary/Treasurer classes joined together for a solidarity dinner that evening where Eastern Regional Vice President Dean Iacopelli thanked everyone for being there and being dedicated to making NATCA stronger.
Bill Dewey, NATCA Southwest Region Legislative Committee and Jimmy Clouse, Fort Worth Center TMU NATCA Rep, met with Congressman Pete Sessions, (Texas-32). Also in attendance were Travis Reynolds, Congressman Session’s Dallas office outreach coordinator and Matt Garcia, the Congressman’s Dallas office chief of staff last week.
Sessions serves as Chairman of the House Rules Committee. They spoke with the Congressman and discussed working together to maintain the safety of the National Airspace System.
On Monday, April 10, Columbus, OH ATCT (CMH) members Mike Weekley and Phil Carpino staffed the NATCA table at Congressman Steve Stiver’s (Ohio-15) 7th annual job fair for Ohio’s 15th congressional district. The event was held at Ohio State’s 4-H center.
The NATCA table was one of 80 tables made available to nearly 500 job seekers. The table garnered a lot of interest and even more questions. It was a great opportunity to answer questions about our profession and interact with the general public.
