Aug. 18, 2017 // This Week’s Notebook: Atlanta TRACON’s Mike Ryan Talks ATC at Breakfast Club, Union Plus Scholarship, Penn State World Campus Benefits, NATCA 101 Class Dates, and Much More

Atlanta TRACON controller Mike Ryan spoke before an Atlanta Breakfast Club recently, highlighting the profession of air traffic control and all that NATCA members do to keep the flying public safe.

Warren Wheeler organized the event and introduced Ryan by explaining what phase of a trip by airplane you are statistically most likely to be injured or killed — the drive to the airport.

“Our commercial air transport system is extremely safe and a lot of people work hard to make it so,” said Wheeler. “Our speaker is one of them.”

About 70 members of the breakfast club were in attendance and listened to Ryan speak for about 30 minutes about the air traffic control system. As business professionals, they fly frequently and were very interested to learn more about the National Airspace System and aviation safety professionals that keep it safe. After his presentation he answered member questions.
