Air Traffic Controller Communications Panels Discuss Special Use, Teamwork, Reporting

The NATCA CFS 2022 Pilot/Controller Communications panel remains one of the most highly anticipated discussions at the conference year after year. This year, NATCA CFS 2022 hosted three separate discussions on key hot topics for today’s National Airspace System (NAS), with NATCA and industry panelists.

Panel #1 – Is it Active or Not:  A Look at Special Use Airspace. Moderated by NATCA ATSAP Analyst Team (AAT) member Dawn Johnson and NATCA National Recurrent Training Lead Richard Kennington. Panelists are NATCA National Airspace Representative Josh Haviland and Maryland Air National Guard 104th Fighter Squadron Chief of Training Major Jack “Queen” Ingber.

Panel #2 – Pilot Controller Communication: Working Together. Moderated by NATCA National Recurrent Training Lead Richard Kennington with panelists NATCA National Safety Committee Pilot/Controller Liaison Brad Wilcko, Air Line Pilots Association Airport & Ground Environment Subcommittee Chairman Jason Herman, and Cirrus Owners Pilots Association University Dean John Gressett.

Panel #3 – Reporting: How I Contribute to Safety. Moderated by NATCA ATSAP Analyst Team (AAT) member Dawn Johnson, with panelists Allied Pilots Association (APA) and MD-80 Captain Mark Woodall, NATCA ATSAP Analyst Erin Phelps.
