Staff Spotlight: Labor Relations Staff Attorney Gabriele Ulbig

We have an amazing National Office staff that our membership can be very proud of. Today, we feature one of the newest members of NATCA staff, Labor Relations Staff Attorney Gabriele Ulbig. Gabriele joined NATCA’s staff in February. She worked previously with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Organizing Coalition, and has more than a decade of experience in labor law. Welcome to the NATCA family, Gabriele!

Where are you from, or what places have you lived?

I was born and raised in Berlin, Germany, and have lived as a young adult in England for a year and in Israel for many years until I settled in the U.S.

Where did you go to school, or what other education do you have?

I earned a master’s degree in political science at the Free University of Berlin, Germany, and went to law school at the Catholic University of America in Washington.

Do you have family members who are involved in unions?

My father’s calling was to work for the German Catholic worker movement; we were all about the good fight in my household growing up.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a member of NATCA’s staff?

I am invigorated by the thought of doing my small part in supporting all the good NATCA members who dedicate themselves to keeping air travel safe.

Do you have any hobbies or any other activities you enjoy outside of your work for NATCA?

I love to travel, garden, play cards and other games, and gather friends and family around my dinner table.

Has there been a favorite moment for you while at NATCA?

I have one absolute favorite moment every month when the NATCA staff union has its monthly member meeting. I am so proud to be a member of our staff union.

If I could pick four people to have dinner with, dead or alive, I would you choose: Mother Jones, Saint Maximilian Kolbe, and my grandparents whom I have never met.
