Staff Spotlight: Deputy Director of Public Affairs for Information Technology John McAlduff

NATCA is incredibly fortunate to have a team at our National Office that exemplifies dedication and excellence. Each day, they pour their hearts and efforts into their work, driven by a commitment to deliver unparalleled service and representation. NATCA’s members have every reason to be proud of this remarkable team, for they are the backbone that supports and uplifts our Union. Today, we are excited to shine the spotlight on one of the newest members of our National Office team, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for Information Technology John McAlduff.

Where are you from, or what places have you lived?
I was born in Alaska, raised in Arizona (in a small town that bills itself as the “Dude Ranch Capital of the World”) and spent most of my life in the Phoenix area after college. I moved to Northern Virginia just over 10 years ago.

Where did you go to school, or what other education do you have?
I started college in Tucson (Bear Down, Ariz.!) but finished my undergraduate degree at Arizona State. Working in Information Technology, I’ve sat through many, many technical training classes.

Do you have family members who are involved in unions?
My nephew is an apprentice electrician and will likely join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW); I’m pretty sure there are other extended family members who are/were union members.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a member of NATCA’s staff? What’s the most challenging?
I just joined the staff, but I’ve had nothing but positive interactions and great first impressions.

Do you have any hobbies or any other activities you enjoy outside of your work for NATCA?
Reading, watching movies, traveling, and music– I play a little guitar.

My favorite band is: when pressed to answer, l’ll say The Beatles, but I have many faves and like a wide variety of music. Most of my brain is filled with song lyrics.

My favorite quote is: “Of course this is happening inside your head, Harry! Why on earth should that mean it isn’t real?”

My favorite comfort food is: Eggs and Potatoes

The funniest movie I have ever seen is: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (don’t get me started, I can quote huge segments of the movie.)

The one chore I absolutely hate doing is: pulling weeds
