NATCA in the News: NATCA President Highlights ATCs Will Continue to Serve American Public During Appearance on NBC’s Nightly News
NATCA President Nick Daniels appeared on NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas on Oct. 7. Daniels stressed that air traffic controllers across the National Airspace System will continue to show up for work to serve the American people, “we don’t control the government shutting down and we certainly don’t control the government ending it.”
Daniels added the ongoing government shutdown is only putting a spotlight on a system that is already short-staffed. Air traffic controllers are deemed essential federal workers, meaning they continue to show up for work despite the government shutdown. If the government remains closed, ATCs face the prospect of a partial paycheck next week and no paychecks later in the month.
