Bipartisan Deal to End the Government Shutdown Passed in Senate and Now Moves to House

Yesterday, we advised you that the U.S. Senate was voting to proceed on a package to end the government shutdown. That vote succeeded late in the night. Today, the Senate agreed to a vote schedule for final passage and began voting at 6 p.m. EST. We are pleased to let you know that the bill to end the shutdown passed by a 60-40 vote.

The legislation now moves to the U.S. House of Representatives, which is expected to take it up on Wednesday.

NATCA will now turn our attention to House to advocate for passage of this bi-partisan agreement. As this process moves forward, we will keep you updated.

While Congress attempts to find a path to end the shutdown, the heightened scrutiny and focus remain. Air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals embrace the responsibility we hold and the trust we are given.

No American should ever be forced to work without a paycheck.

We have been used once again as a political pawn and will be left to address the damage this shutdown has caused. The effects of the shutdown are having real consequences for hard-working, patriotic, American workers. We know this is the time we must once again rally around one another to handle the impossible task at hand. We continue to work short-staffed, and we know you’ve had to endure the many different impacts and effects of this shutdown.

The aviation safety professionals we represent are doing everything they can to continue to show up and deliver America’s passengers and cargo safely to their destinations. We will work with the Administration on any path that will recognize the unsung heroes who unfairly shoulder the burden of a government shutdown.

We will do what we do best, and that is continue putting safety first and letting the American public know we are always doing everything possible, even when handed an impossible situation.
