NATCA Statement on LaGuardia Airport Tragedy
The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) is deeply saddened by the tragic accident at LaGuardia Airport between an Air Canda Jazz CRJ-900 and an emergency vehicle on the ground.
Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our sincere condolences and stand in support of the entire aviation community including our brothers and sisters with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and the Canadian Flight Attendant Union (CFAU: SABC) who have been affected by this tragedy.
NATCA is supporting our members at LaGuardia Airport through our Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) program and are working to provide the necessary resources and assistance at this time.
As party to the investigation being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), NATCA will not offer comment. Our union will wait for the NTSB to complete its work and use that information to help guide decisions and changes to enhance and improve aviation safety.
Air traffic controllers work every day to keep passengers and cargo moving safely and efficiently. We serve quietly, but moments like this remind us of the responsibility we carry—and how deeply it stays with us when tragedy occurs.
NATCA has been and remains supportive of taking all possible steps to ensure America maintains the best and safest air traffic control system in the world. We will be a ready partner with the administration and Congress in any effort to further modernize the ATC system to maximize safety and protect lives.
